I was having one of those days yesterday.
My 2-year-old and I were totally butting heads all morning.
Then, after trying everything in the book– running at the park, driving to see the trains, going to the bakery for cookies, watching his favorite show, playing soccer outside– he still wasn’t happy.
I was starting to get really sick of the huffing and puffing. From both of us.
I huffed and puffed some more through the house, I would say grasping at straws but it was more like grasping at my own hair, while the 2-year-old followed me like a lost puppy dog screaming “WHAT!” and throwing his arms in the air every few feet.
and they say 2-year-old’s are little sponges. maybe I need to watch my actions a little better. oops.
Then, I opened the cabinet in the playroom.
The cabinet that houses the excess toys. You know, the ones you can’t stand to see scattered all over the floor so you shove them in a cabinet.
Out of sight, out of mind.
I pulled out a few puzzles that he hasn’t seen in months, cars he has never seen before, new (to him) coloring books, stacking blocks and stickers and? we went to town.
Both of us totally happy.
He was happy because it was all “new” to him, I was happy because he was finally quiet and had a smile on his face.
I then grabbed a shirt full of toys and put them away in the same cabinet. For the next few months.

I’ve been called “maternal” since the day I could hold a baby doll. I’ve become a pregnancy, baby and parenting resource since having my first child almost 10 years ago. This is my blog and where I share my journey through parenthood with you.

Hey Christina! I picked you for a blog award that was given to me today. To accept, just go to my blog and follow the steps to pass it on

Such a great tip! Works for all kinds of people — and when momma isn't happy, nobody is happy! Of course, probably applies to the 2 year old too!
I just found your blog via nestingwithniall. I really like the layout of your blog. It's very soothing. And great content too
This is one of my life-savers too. After every birthday and Christmas, I take a few toys to hide away for a few months, that way every so often I can rotate in new ones for new stimulation and entertainment.
LOL – Hmmm…I have that same strategy with my *cats*
Kerry- thank you! That's so sweet of you, I'll check it out!!
Natalie- Totally works for everyone! Change is good
Greta- Thanks! Glad to have you here
Ginger- Totally!! Great way to save money and not flood the house with toys, too
Christina- LOVE it! haha
