8 Tips for Simple Drying and Styling

Last week I attended a San Diego MOMfia event at Detour Salon. I arrived 30 minutes before anyone else because it was either arrive early or wash dishes. Out the door I went. While sipping on wine, and enjoying the silence, I started thinking about what I wanted to ask my stylist. Other than “are you free next week to color my hair?” the only thing I could think of was “how can I quickly make my hair look presentable?” A stylist walked up to me, introduced herself as Megan, and we began chatting. Stylists are the best therapists. Luckily, Megan is also a mom so she could totally relate to my hair woes and daily urge to wear a hat. I neglected to mention that I throw on a hat 90% of the time but I think she figured that out based on my 8 inch roots alone. Not only did I learn how to quickly tend to my hair, I learned I was doing almost everything completely wrong.

Here are Megan’s tips for quick and simple drying and styling.
1. Wash your hair- (ok, that’s my tip) in order to avoid many days of donning hats.

2. Cowlicks- Blow-dry any areas with a cowlick first. Use a fine-tooth comb and comb it in different directions against your head or forehead (depending on where the cowlick is located).
3. Curly hair- Use a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer to help reduce frizz and speed up the drying process.
4. Drying- Start at the roots, your hair will dry faster (this is key).
5. Heat- High heat is bad! Medium heat is good!
6. Control frizz- Use a narrow nozzle attachment on your blow dryer and gently brush hair downward, with a gentle pull, using a round brush.
7. Height- To create some height, separate and clip the hair from the crown of your head and up. Once the rest of your hair is dry, use the same technique but brush (with a gentle pull) hair upward.
8. Product- Normally I tell my stylist not to apply any product after I get my hair done; I end up with a greasy messy mop the next day. Megan assured me that I wouldn’t have that problem with their Bumble and Bumble product so I gave her the go-ahead. Lo and behold, my hair didn’t get anymore greasy any faster than it normally does.

I absolutely love my hair stylist and I love getting my hair done. It's my two hour escape to make myself feel better.

Thank you for stopping by my blog yesterday!

For the Watermark questions, I only know how to make one in Photoshop. You add your water mark, or words. Over in "Layers" there is a pull down tab "Opacity" move the bar from 100% to desired look. Then do the same with "Fill"
    And BINGO! Watermark :)

Just got my hair cut Saturday! I noticed she did what you say is best, but I usually am too lazy to take the time. Maybe if I did, I wouldn't need to straighten it after and would actually save time! Thanks! ♥

Gina- I went back and got mine done this past week, too! I always thought I didn't have the time but it actually saves time in the end… you're so right about the straightening thing!

Marissa- thank you! I loved looking at the pictures (and reading) about your adorable kids earlier today :)
