LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA Water Park Opens Spash Zoo for Toddlers!

Splash Zoo is an interactive water play area featuring spray pads, fountains, a teeter totter and giant interactive DUPLO® animals all geared specifically for guests ages 1 to 3 and is located inside LEGOLAND Water Park behind Duplo® Splash Safari and Kid Creek.

I took the toddler to the Grand Opening Celebration of the Splash Zoo yesterday at LEGOLAND California. It was the perfect day– the sun, the water, the fact that I only had one kid with me (that was the only reason I could go!), and the company. LEGOLAND and The San Diego MOMfia brought together friends and bloggers from all over San Diego to help celebrate the opening of Splash Zoo and gave away a Cabana to one lucky winner. Coincidentally, my friend won and she asked us to join her cabana style. What a treat!

Having the use of a cabana was very cool. It’s definitely something I’ll be looking in to when we plan family days at the Water Park. I had a place to put the stroller, a place to quickly change the baby and a place to rest in the shade after playing in the sun. Now, you don’t need a cabana– since they have lockers, stroller parking, restrooms, umbrellas and plenty of seating– but it’s one of those cool things to have if you have family in town, are planning a birthday celebration or just want to pamper yourself… and your family.

We ate lunch at the Beach Front Grill (my salad was quite yummy, dang diet) before settling in for some water splashing… the baby, not me. I only splash people if they splash me first. Just kidding.

Our first stop was the new Splash Zoo! but my little guy was a bit standoffish at first. To be fair, it was his very first time at a water park and very first time seeing water shoot up from the ground and out of giant DUPLO® figures that he usually grips between his tiny fingers. We ended up hanging out at Kid Creek, a tot-sized lazy river with one piece inner tubes (so a small child wont fall through the middle- genius!) then made our way to the elephant in DUPLO® Safari Splash. That’s where he found his courage to toddle through the water and bang on the elephant a thousand times. We managed to mosey back to Splash Zoo and finally, he felt at peace with the water. We watched the other kids play with the interactive animals- his favorite? the zebra with the lever that activates a flow of water over its back. Personally, I got a kick out of the penguins with the surprise water action.

I can’t wait to go back with the entire family and check out some of the “big kid” rides…

Another highlight from my day? Watching my son’s face light up while playing with his DUPLO® Zoo set (after a looooong nap). I could tell by the sparkle in his eye that he was reminiscing about his day with larger than life DUPLO® animals.

nice to meet you...

Facts about Splash Zoo:

  • The animals found in Splash Zoo are scale replicas of the popular DUPLO® Zoo sets
  • There is a lion, a zebra, a giraffe, a polar bear and two penguins
  • Each Splash Zoo animal has an unique interactive feature and when activated, water flows, shoots in to the air and sprays out in different directions
  • Under the Zoo sign is a crawl through tunnel and above the Zoo sign is a fountain that shoots water 25 feet in the air
  • There is also an interactive teeter totter that splashes and sprays when in use
  • Splash Zoo has it’s own filtration system separate from the rest of the park
  • 5,500 gallons of water are constantly flowing through the filtration system
  • All water in the Water Park is heated to approximately 80 degrees

Disclosure: we were provided free tickets from LEGOLAND to attend the grand opening of Splash Zoo. We were also given a DUPLO® set. I was not paid to write about the Splash Zoo or the event and my opinions are my own.
