The 3.5-year-old is advancing much faster than the first boy did… as I expected considering he has an older brother to look up to. What I wasn’t prepared for is how quickly he would transition through things like the stages of potty training.
About a week after the potty training adventure began, I started to hear “I want to do it like Daddy and Big Brother does!”
Translation: I want to stand up and pee into the potty.
Part of me was jumping for joy as I no longer had to worry about him touching the toilets in public restrooms but then I started to think about pee all over my bathroom.
Like I said, this is all happening so much faster than it did with my first so I haven’t even bought the Tinkle Targets! But then I had a brilliant idea if I do say so myself!
Put one piece of toilet paper in the toilet before your boy attempts to pee standing up and use that as a target! If that’s not fancy enough… keep a jar of O’s (or, even better, colored O’s) by the toilet and… voila! Pee Targets!
And? It actually works.

I’ve been called “maternal” since the day I could hold a baby doll. I’ve become a pregnancy, baby and parenting resource since having my first child almost 10 years ago. This is my blog and where I share my journey through parenthood with you.
