With the help of your little ghouls and goblins (aka your children) you too can make your own hanging ghosts! This project is fun for an older child (I would say 5 and up but it depends on your child’s maturity), as it requires more coordination– threading needles, sewing buttons, cutting fabric and drawing faces.
- 1 Styrofoam ball- I used a 5″
- White fabric- I used half of a standard-sized pillow case
- 1 Embroidery needle
- Black embroidery thread
- 1 Button- make sure it’s at least 1″
- White ribbon
- Black Sharpie
- Plastic chopstick or skewer
- Cut a long piece of black embroidery thread and double it (fold it in half)
- Wrap one end of the black embroidery thread tightly around the end of the chopstick, multiple times
- Slowly push the chopstick through the center of the styrofoam ball
- Pull the thread off of the chopstick (so the thread is through the ball) and pull the chopstick out
- Thread the open side of the thread through the embroidery needle
- Sew the button with the needle and thread a few times and tie a strong knot; cut the end and remove the needle
- Find the center of the fabric (fold length-wise then width-wise)
- Cut a small hole at the center of the fabric
- Place the styrofoam ball under the fabric and bring the black thread through the small hole in the fabric
- Tie (and knot) a piece of white ribbon directly under the styrofoam ball; cut excess ribbon
- Draw eyes and a mouth

I’ve been called “maternal” since the day I could hold a baby doll. I’ve become a pregnancy, baby and parenting resource since having my first child almost 10 years ago. This is my blog and where I share my journey through parenthood with you.

What a fun, fun project!
I have to do this with my boys! Yay. Thanks for sharing. I’m so glad I stumbled upon your blog on Twitter. Now I’m off to “like” you on FB.
