The New Britax UltimateComfort Series – Exclusively at Babies “R” Us and Toys “R” Us

BRITAX has been a staple in our lives the past 12 years. I’ll never forget the first BRITAX convertible car seat that I received from my first baby shower back in 2002. It was the Roundabout in the Cheetah fashion. Since then, all four of my children have, at one point or another, sat in a BRITAX car seat. Some of them still do! BRITAX has remained true to their goal of producing quality child restraints with safety as the ultimate focus. I’ve watched (and experienced first hand) BRITAX evolve over the years and I’m very pleased to learn about their newest collection.

BRITAX has a brand new line of exclusive convertible car seats exclusive to Babies “R” Us and Toys “R” Us –
the all-new UltimateComfort™ series.

BRITAX BRU UltimateComfort Series

Some of the special features of the UltimateComfort series include:

  • Memory Foam: Soft, resilient Memory Foam layered with BRITAX’s Premium Comfort Foam contours to the body and provides an extra cushion of comfort.
  • Exclusive Fashions: New fabric options, available only at Toys “R” Us
  • Cup Holder: For on-the-go travel convenience

The UltimateComfort series combines comfort, style and accessories at an affordable price point for parents and caregivers. Choose from three seats to meet your child’s size, vehicle space and style and always make sure your child is properly restrained and the seat is properly installed for your child’s safety. BRITAX seats offer “safety you can see” and clearly display all safety instructions both on the seat and inside the manual.

For more information on how to properly measure and size your child before purchasing a car seat, please see the BRITAX Learning Center – More to Measure, Fit My Child, and Car Seat Installation Advice on how to ensure your child’s seat is properly installed and used at all times.

Comfort and safety at the same time

The beauty about the new UltimateComfort series is that you can safely provide your child with luxury-style comfort with the addition of the memory foam layers without the use of after-market products in your child’s seat, which can jeopardize your child’s safety and void the seat’s warranty. This is huge! Especially for those kiddos that do not fancy car rides. Trust me, I’ve had one of those and I wanted to do everything possible to make him comfortable and happy.

Quinn, my dear friend, and I packed up for another adventure at the Skirball Cultural Center with the amazing Big City Moms family and all the lovely expectant parents in Los Angeles. But it was more than just an adventure, it was a reunion with many friends, a great time meeting new faces, fun talking with parents-to-be about the latest and greatest and speaking as an expert panelist with my friends, The Guncles, Bill Horn and Scout Masterson.

Our seminar was a hit – I had one mom tell me we even had her husband engaged and listening! And although we could have stood up on that stage and talked for hours (literally) and about so many more of our favorites, we were given the (difficult) task of narrowing it down to our top 10. So in no particular order (or if you weren’t able to make it to the event) here are our top 10 picks for Best Baby Gear!

  • 6-in-1 Baby Carrier: 6 Positions
  • Newborn (7lbs) – 45 pounds – NO infant insert needed
  • Eliminates that “Baby Wearing Gap”. The adjustable seat solves the babywearing gap from stage to stage within your baby’s personal growth and development.
  • Extremely Comfortable! We own and use this carrier so I can honestly say that the ergonomic position is comfortable for baby (and mom/dad) in every setting.

4moms breeze – and rockaRoo

  • The breeze is easy – it opens and closes in one step. Literally. I can move the breeze from room to room with extreme ease and it travels nicely in the included, fully-enclosed travel bag.
  • Comes fully equipped from birth – it comes complete with a travel bag, full-sized bassinet and separate bassinet mattress and leak-proof changing pad.
  • Moving it from room to room or from destination to destination? No problem!
  • Parents of all lifestyles love it because of the ease of use AND the sleek design.
  • A rocking seat that takes literally seconds to assemble, is super simple to operate, it’s not an eyesore, is as quiet as a mouse and the baby adores it? – gold.
  • This super lightweight swing is way more than your traditional swing. 4moms took a traditional swing and flipped it on its head, which maximizes the sensation for baby at baby’s head – where it matter most.
  • The flexible toy bar provides visual and tactile stimulation, but can easily swing out of the way when you need to get baby in and out.
  • With 5 speeds and the ability to connect your mp3 player (with the included mp3 player cord), baby will be soothed, happy and sleeping in no time.
  • It’s the little things… I really love the attached, discrete pocket on the back of the seat. It’s a perfect spot to store the AC adapter and mp3 cord while not in use, traveling or storing. I also love the shape of the toy balls, as they are easier for my son to manipulate.

L’oved Baby

  • You can’t forget about layette basics for baby!
  • L’ovedbaby Organic Cotton Basics Collection are GOTS-certified 100% organic cotton. GOTS ensures that their factory is both environmentally and socially responsible.
  • The sizes range from size newborn/preemie to 24months.
  • The collection comes in 8 beautiful solid colors and 5 striped colorways that all mix and match, which equates to lots of neutrals and options for both boys and girls.

Orbit G3

  • Play Matchmaker – Mix and match seats, bases and accessories. Choices- Pod/Basket, colors for frame, seat, canopy… customize to your liking VISUALLY before you buy.
  • What’s new for the G3 stroller frame and stroller seat:
  1. Improved maneuverability
  2. Sleek all-black base or sophisticated dark grey
  3. Simplified folding
  4. Plush grips with fold-friendly feature
  5. Soft, ventilated fabric
  6. Improved 5-point harness (no little escapees in this one!)
  • All G3 pieces are compatible with G2 line.
  • We’ve been using the G3 stroller frame and stroller seat since it came out and I’m highly impressed with the changes Orbit Baby has made for their G3 line. We have used the G2 infant car seat and G2 stroller since Quinn was born, so I know first had how convenient and helpful each little improvement really is.

Diaper Dude

  • Now dad doesn’t need to feel any embarrassment lugging around a lady-like diaper bag!
  • Diaper Dude makes a number of bags, including a line of bags with the logos of Major League Baseball teams. The camo is great because it’s also a little tongue and cheek for those dads that like that sort of thing. (Hey, it’s good enough for The Guncles!)
  • These bags make a great father’s day gift or baby shower gift. Why not bring something for dad too?!

Timi and Leslie Hannah Limited Edition Pastels Collection

  • All Timi and Leslie bags are vegan, faux leather and PVC-free.
  • I adore this line because everything is included! Function, Fashion and Features like… Cross-body strap, Changing pad with mesh pocket, Zippered bag, Insulated bottle tote, Stroller straps, Water-resistant lining/light colored to see contents of bag, Two exterior side pockets/6 interior, Attached key fob. See? You get everything you need in one purchase!

  • Truly an everything stroller – a car stroller, nap stroller and umbrella stroller combined.
  • The reclining seat with adjustable footrest allows for infants (and toddlers) to lounge or rest while on the go.
  • G-LUXE’s hand-level triggers make it easy to fold it with just your fingers. Once folded, G-LUXE stands on its own and out of the way. THIS IS HUGE! Especially when you’re trying to get out the door with a baby on your hip or get everything in the car – with a baby on your hip.
  • Extendable SPF 50+ sunshade to block those harmful rays while seated or reclined.
  • Stain and water-resistant fabric and removable seat pad – G-LUXE’s seat pad can be easily removed for washing away your child’s spills. (It’s Machine washable).
  • The lightweight aluminum frame  only weighs 13.4lbs total!
  • The stroller comes with an included cup holder for parents.

Stokke Tripp Trapp

  • Tripp Trapp adjusts to the size of your child, ensuring he or she is always at the perfect height to eat, play and interact, with his or her feet properly supported, at whatever age.
  • By around six months, your baby will be able to start sitting upright unaided. With the use of the Baby Set, which has a high back and rail support with an integrated crotch strap, the Tripp Trapp lets your baby sit securely and comfortably at the table with the entire family.
  • The intelligent, adjustable design allows freedom of movement with both depth- and height adjustable seat- and footplates. When adjusted correctly, your child is ensured a comfortable and ergonomically correct seating position at any age.
  • All of my children sit in a Tripp Trapp – yes, even the oldest at 11 year old.

Britax Frontier 90 ClickTight

  • This forward-facing seat is suitable from 2 years and 25lbs up to 90lbs, and in booster mode from 40-120 pounds.
  • We showed this particular seat to demonstrate the ClickTight technology as I have a feeling that Britax will eventually  integrate the ClickTight technology in all their convertible (and hopefully infant) seats as well. This technology is amazing.
  • The ClickTight Installation System allows parents to easily achieve a safe and secure installation using the vehicle safety belt throughout the life of the seat (in harness mode) without having to worry about the weight of their child.
  • True Side Impact Protection – provides deep side walls and a head restraint with energy-absorbing EPP foam to distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, and contain the head, neck and body of the child – keeping the child aligned in the event of a collision.
  • Base with SafeCell Technology – designed to keep child safe/secure in a crash by compressing and lowering the center of gravity/reducing the forward motion of the seat.

Summer Infant BabyZoom WiFi Video Monitor

  • An internet viewing system that also includes a dedicated in-home handheld monitor. Perfect for traveling parents, working parents, grandparents, checking-in on your pets, while out on date night… the sky is the limit!
  • Many of the internet monitors on the market include the camera only. It’s obviously still most important to be able to monitor your child when you’re at home and no one should be using their phone as an all day video monitor!
  • Bank level security with secure log in.
  • 3.5″ TOUCH screen with hi-res color display and night vision.
  • Expandable system. Able to monitor 2 cameras/2 rooms at one time.

Britax Registry Rewards Program: Get What You Need and Get a Car Seat for Free! (giveaway)

We’re big fans of Britax and have been for over a decade. Our first Britax purchase was a Cheetah print Roundabout in 2002. My oldest son (now 10 1/2) transitioned from his infant car seat to the Roundabout, in the rear-facing position, at 6-months-old and sat in a Britax seat for the next eight years – in a Roundabout, Marathon, Regent and finally a Parkway before he was old enough and big enough to use the vehicle safety belt.

6 months… 18 months… 5 years… 7 years

So when I first learned about the Britax Registry Reward Program early last year, my initial thought was, “and why wasn’t this program around sometime in the past 10 years?!” Well, I already know the answer to that – it’s because Britax has grown and evolved so much over the past decade. While 10 years ago it was all about car seats, now they have just about everything you could need or want to get up and go with your baby in tow. And now that I’m taking inventory of what we have and what we need for the new baby, the Britax Registry Rewards Program has my full attention.

New and expectant parents may earn an extra registry gift from Britax – a Britax Boulevard 70-G3 Convertible Car Seat ($320 value) when they buy one designated Britax or BOB item from each of five baby gear categories on the Britax New Parent Checklist.

The New Parent Checklist has you and your baby covered for years to come. Just purchase one item from each category: Stroller, Car Seat, Carrier, Large Accessory and Small Accessory, save your UPC codes from the box and ta-dah! You get your Boulevard 70-G3 Convertible Car Seat as your reward – for free!

For expectant parents, this program is like gold. Simply pick and get your stroller, infant car seat, carrier and any accessories you want – which is all the gear and stuff you’ll need anyway – and you have your convertible car seat ready and waiting for when the time is right to transition your baby out of the infant car seat. For new parents who might already have their infant car seat and stroller, I would say go with a convertible car seat and the BOB all-terrain stroller – and then get your second convertible car seat for free. We have a convertible car seat, for each child, in each of our cars (one of them is a Britax Boulevard 70-G3) and an all-terrain stroller in addition to our everyday stroller – and we use them all.

It doesn’t matter if you purchase the qualifying items yourself or receive them as a gift. To participate in the Rewards Program, just mail in the five UPC barcodes (found on each new product’s box) and complete a redemption form. More information about the redemption steps can be found on

The Britax Boulevard 70-G3 achieves revolutionary safety through the use of Britax SafeCell Technology in the base of the seat, new HUGS with SafeCell Technology, integrated steel bars, side impact protection and an energy-absorbing Versa-Tether. With Britax, it’s 360 degrees of protection and safety you can see!

These safety features work together to minimize the forward movement of a child’s head during a crash. The Boulevard 70-G3 offers a five-point, no-rethread harness, a quick-adjust head restraint and harness and multiple buckle and recline adjustments. The Boulevard 70-G3 accommodates children between 5 and 40 pounds rear facing, and up to 70 pounds forward facing. The Boulevard 70-G3 is available in a variety of fashions with a suggested retail price of $319.99.

Britax and I wanted to give you a head start on your Registry Rewards Program with your very first Registry Rewards item – the Britax Baby Carrier! Enter below to win the Britax carrier in your choice of color – Black, Navy or Organic Tan – and check one item off your New Parent Checklist!

At the core of the REACT Safety System is the crumple zone, which is the area designed to deform and crumple in the event of a collision. Stay tuned for even more new baby gear as 2013 continues on! There are more new and exciting things to come – some of which I can’t even talk about yet! One thing’s for sure, 2013 is going to be a great year for baby gear.

My (ABC) Week In Pictures: Everything ABC Kids

Because of the time it took to prep for ABC Kids (and then the time it took to prep and execute a NBC news segment just days after I returned), I maybe took two or three pictures that didn’t include a stroller, car seat or baby item within the past two weeks. To keep with my new favorite part of Monday (the My Week In Pictures post), here are some of my favorite moments and highlight from my four (five) days at ABC Kids in Louisville, KY… which also includes sneak peek details about some of the new baby/child stuff and gear coming in 2013.

It’s always nice the first day – when you leave, by yourself, on a quiet plane. Only having to worry about which music you want to listen to and which foods you want to eat… and when (even if it’s not the greatest because no one at the airport knows what gluten free means). Even thought I didn’t bring my kids, I still brought my Skip Hop Metallic Versa diaper bag, as it was the best “purse” option I had. And even the kids on the plane were good. It was a good day.

Day two involved sleeping in (even though it wasn’t really sleeping in once you consider the 3-hour time change), lots of coffee and some scarf wearing. It was a great day.

Day three was (baby) gear, gear and more gear. I love the new fashions and colors coming in 2013. Lots of bright colors, “Tiffany” blues and bold patterns and fabrics. Here are the new colors on the Britax B-Agile and the Bumbleride Indie (along with the new stroller board and new features for 2013) and the Bumbleride Flite.

Some of the new strollers to keep an eye on for 2013 include the Valco Baby Snap 4 and the Peg-Perego Book Plus.

Car seats are going white in 2013. The Clek Foonf was one of the first to showcase this beautiful and simple base color and now Maxi-Cosi is rolling out a white Mico (to match seamlessly with the white Quinny Moodd – swoon) and Peg-Perego is going white on some of their Primo Viaggio convertible car seats!

Day three ended at the private Uppa Baby party. There they revealed their newest product, which will be out around March 2013. The Uppa Baby Mesa is an innovative infant car seat that is silly-simple to install, adjusts the harness height from the front and detaches from the Uppa Baby Cruz and Uppa Baby Vista by the push of a (small) button on the top of the carry handle – genius. More on this beauty later…

Day four included some of my favorite moments. I met with three owners and thoroughly enjoyed spending every second with each of them. In fact, I wish it could have been longer. I met Claire of Bebe Au Lait and we discussed the new (and super stylish) prints for their already beautiful line of nursing covers. Then we talked about our kids. I met Trish at Little Giraffe and relished in her knowledge of design and love for unique, beautiful, practical and silky smooth fabrics. I could have talked to her all day. I also met with Katie from Puj – her smile alone made me that much more excited for what’s to come from a brand I already know and love so much.

My time at Skip Hop was also one of my favorite moments of the day – okay, there were a lot of really great moments! I love what is newly available and what’s coming for 2013. A few of my favorites include a new stroller organizer (with a zip-off storage pocket), a brand new Jonathan Adler Light and Luxe diaper bag and educational and inviting wooden toys perfect for little hands.

The Nook Pebble holds a special place in my heart when it comes to babies and sleep. That and the Nested Bean Zen Swaddle. I got a chance to finally see (and sit in) the highly anticipated Pebble Lounger (age 18 months and up) along with the new mattress, pillows and oh-so-amazing body pillows. Nook has your child’s sleep needs covered from crib to toddler bed and twin and now for a crib conversion to a full bed! Mom and dad can enjoy the pillows.

Nuna was my last stop of the day before heading home – or so I thought. The excitement in the Nuna booth was unmatched. I fell hard for the Leaf, pretty much at first sight. There are no batteries or thing-a-ma-bobs, it simply sways (like a leaf) for a few minutes – all on it’s own. The Zaaz is a high chair that grows with your child from 6 months and beyond. The innovative height adjust and easy remove pieces instantly transform the high chair into a seat. And finally, the Sena is a good-looking and super easy to use playard and sleep space – with a removable bassinet.
